VOW #2
MOVEMENT
Movement and Exercise Are Key to Your Longevity.
Movement is the second of the four vows and probably everyone’s favorite. If we’re not being lazy, movement can quickly become the most enjoyable of your vows—especially in the beginning. Movement or exercise comes in a variety of modalities and techniques, what’s important is that you make an effort to try as many things as possible until you find an activity or activities that you enjoy enough to be consistent with.
Some people are born with a natural inclination to exercise, while others—not so much. That being said, no matter how you personally feel about movement, fitness, and exercise if you want to live a balanced and healthy life, movement is not a suggestion but a prerequisite.
Our ancestors stayed in peak physical condition because it was an absolute necessity. Our ancestors had to be fit enough to evade predators and contribute to the community by hunting or gathering.
Nowadays we have it too good. We can simply drive our air-conditioned car to the local fast food restaurant and grab a cheeseburger and french fries.
Today’s oversaturation of easily accessible fast-food restaurants, processed foods, and Uber Eats, is a far cry from having to stalk a buffalo for 5 miles on foot or hike to the local lake to catch a fish.
No longer are we walking a few miles to the river to gather water with agile and supple bodies that are fit and responsive. Nowadays 60% of Americans are obese and can hardly walk up a flight of stairs.
The second vow is movement because when we learn to move our bodies and maintain healthy body-temples we quickly find out that most diseases and discomfort that the majority of Americans experience can altogether be avoided.
For the human being that lives in a healthy body-temple, one finds it much easier to sit in meditation. Meditation is absolutely needed to deal with the distracting forces of our emotions and mind. As you’re probably beginning to see, living a balanced and healthy lifestyle is just that—a lifestyle.
I don’t teach people how to feel good for a month or two by adhering to the latest fad diet. I teach people how to access the Wisdom and Power that is within all human beings, the kind of Wisdom and Power that leads us to freedom, liberation, and sovereignty.
